WEVA Establishes 'Videographers In Distress Fund'

Sarasota, FL - Responding to the crisis in the Gulf Coast Region, the Wedding & Event Videographers Association International (WEVA) has established the Videographers In Distress Fund, a 501(c)3 charitable relief fund, which will be used to help professional videographers (WEVA members and non-members) rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The Videographers In Distress (VID) Fund is directed by the 5-member WEVA Disaster Response Committee chaired by Tim Sudall, past-president of the GPVA, and administered through the Foundation for the Mid South, a 501(c)3 charitable organization based in Mississippi, one of the states directly affected by Katrina.
Contributions to the Fund are tax deductible. The VID Fund has already opened online to accept contributions from individuals and corporations. The Foundation for the Mid South, created in 1989 by former Mississippi Governor William Winter, former CEO of Entergy Corporation Edwin Lupberger from Louisiana, and Bob Nash of Arkansas works to build the communities, resources, and leadership of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi through strategies based on regional cooperation. It does so by using private philanthropic resources to fund, develop, and promote programs in current areas of interest including education, economic development, training programs, and technical assistance.
“In this time of urgency and need, our association has been very pleased by the response provided by the terrific staff of the Foundation for the Mid South, which enabled the coordination necessary for the immediate establishment of this special relief fund for videographers affected by the Gulf Coast catastrophe,” said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.
"We appreciate the generous spirit of WEVA members, and look forward to working with the association’s Disaster Response Committee to help videographers in the region who were devastated by Hurricane Katrina," said George Penick, President of the Foundation for the Mid South.
“Our Committee has already begun hearing from fellow videographers affected by Katrina who urgently need our help and support,” said Sudall. “The VID Fund will enable financial assistance to reach videographers directly.”
